“Mise-en-place”

The French term, “mise-en-place” means everything in its place. In terms of cooking, that means measuring, chopping, etc. all of your ingredients before you begin cooking, and then placing them in the order in which they will be used. Not only is it an efficient way of cooking, but you will find it takes a lot of the stress out of the process.

I have also found that it is very helpful to read a recipe several times so I am not surprised to find out 20 minutes before dinner is ready that in fact something really needs 40 minutes to cook longer than I expected.

Look at that mise-en place!

I was watching Joanna Gaines’ cooking show several months ago and not only fell in love with her stove in this studio kitchen, but how she used glass bowls for all of her mise-en-place. I am definitely putting these on my wedding registry!

These bowls look similar to hers from Williams-Sonoma if you want to check them out.

Good luck cooking and remember to get your ingredients ready in advance so you can breeze through the rest of cooking.
